  9. Mea geri on bone to the right of my groin, lead to hemorraging in scrotum, and longer term damage to blood circulation in the area; 2018
  10. Trigger thumb left hand, gripping too hard. A1 pulley cut away in operation--worst decision ever. Later found out that Peter V had similar op. but they didn't cut the A1 fully, just expanded it. I now have min. 30% loss in grip strength and permenant instability in the whole thumb where it sometimes locks in position; 2019

  15. 2nd toe right foot sprained, again; April 2023
  16. Left elbow multiple tendon/ligament failures, unsure of cause, ongoing clinical assessment at physio, but Uke's O Soto Gari where he dropped me in free fall and I landed on my elbow are prime suspects; Apr 2023
  17. Left ear blunt force trauma, separation gash on upper area due to a Tori throwing his Uke on my head with Sumi Gaeshi. Had to go to Emergency dept. to get it glued back on; Dec 2023
  18. Bicep long tendon tear or stretch in combination with brachio radialis & bicipital aponeurosis tears whilst I was performing ko soto gari on Uke... He abnormally crooked his arm to dampen his fall and my little tendons couldn't take the strain in that position. This came 1 week after using me as a landing pad during yoko guruma where he displaced my thoracic vertebrae and rib cage causing my right scapula to shift position. This could have contributed to the bicep injury a week later. Suffice to say, I've lost enthusiasm for both this Uke and training in general at this stage. Jan 2024
  19. New neck injury as a continuation of the old one... Doing floor exercises at home and managed to pull, tear 'something' on the left side of my neck by putting legs over head whilst on my back. This was Not Good. Since then have major issues with ear pressure and not hearing my own voice internally and a very weak neck and pulsating in my carotid sheath. GPT has a lot to say on the subject. Cannot train whatsoever, so even squats stresses my neck. Nov 2025.

That phrase by Murtagh in Lethal Weapon keeps coming back to me: "I'm getting too old for this shit". But seriously, not only do permanent injuries put a downer on training and hinder upcoming gradings, they also have long term effects on your body. With age and injury, I've learnt that I want my body to still be functional when i'm retired. These days, my wife waits with trepidation every time I go training to see if I call and say i'm going to the emergency department. It's now been three occasions where I've called to say i'm going to the emergency department and she's not impressed.
