I own a CRT TV, namely a Bang&Olufsen BeoCenter 1. It’s not mine originally, as I bought it second hand a few years ago for my MisterFPGA for only 600 SEK. It’s not my ideal TV either. That would be the Sony Trinitron, which is one of the best ever made.
But now there is a dilemma, as scalpers on second hand market sites want SillyMoney for anything with the word “Trinitron” in it. And most other sets on sale are the cast offs of yesteryear. Seeing a 21” Sony Trinitron for 25000 SEK feels outrageous. Curiously …

Welcome to the first RetroKväll of the year! It's been... a while, since the last RetroKväll, and I said last time that it was going to be hard to top that one, but dammit, i'm going to try!
So here is the The Plan for this round:
I went to secondary school between 1985-1990, and back then, I still had a Commodore VIC-20, which my dad bought me, probably as some kind of guilt-gift, for my 7th birthday. At the time I started secondary school, I didn't play on that VIC-20 that much anymore, as it had outlived it's ability to entertain. During the first year or so, I started to see that some of the kids at my school either had ZX Spectrum's or Commodore 64's, and I started to lust after a Commodore 64; mainly because it wasn't four colour graphics and had better sound …
more ...I’ve been training the same kihon waza at all belt levels for a number of years now (as well as the techniques towards the next grade), and i'm starting to get to a point where I feel confident teaching them correctly. But attaining that level of quality and correctness that i’ve got in my mind is so elusive! Experience in training techniques in a certain way--your way--leads you to a point of developing concrete ideas about how techniques need to be performed such as where to place your feet; weight distribution of your opponent; finding the correct point …

Or, to be more precise a keikogi, which translates to “training clothes”, because ‘gi’ on it’s own, simply means clothes.
Why do we wear a keikogi in Ju-jutsu, Judo, Karate when MMA and BJJ No-Gi grappling, to take a couple of examples, have both contributed to changing perceptions, with popular opinion moving away from keikogi? This trend seems to shift away from tradition and conformity towards individualism, personal style and an unneccessary focus on physique as an indicator of ability. This is not to say that BJJ No-Gi is not the correct way or that lack of keikogi in …

I’m usually blissfully unaware of potential problems with training until they actually happen, and then I start to learn much more than I wished. A few years ago (autumn 2016), after a particularly aggressive kuzure ude guruma whereby tori lifted me off the mat, one of the muscle tendons in my shoulder tore. At the time, it didn’t feel too bad, because I was in very good physical condition, and the larger muscles compensated, but over the coming weeks and months I noticed a distinct stiffness in my shoulder and limited range of motion. After visiting the physiotherapist …

Sounds nasty doesn’t it? Sports injuries are never fun, and it’s important to get a correct diagnosis and proper treatment as soon as possible so that you can get back into training as quickly as possible.
But before we go into this, i’ve got one huge disclaimer to print here…
I am not a doctor. If you suspect you have an injury, go to the doctors
Today we’re going to look at an injury that can occur during Kote Gaeshi training. Have you ever had one of those days where you thought “Ouch, I really felt …
